Our first step was our usual routine: get up, workout, eat lunch, go get supplies...Then the real fun began. In addition to it being Independence Day, it was also Sidewalk Egg Frying Day. So, we decided to actually try it out to see if this technique works.
We waited...it just turned into a gooey mess.
Celebration Sensation still can't cook!
And here is your ever fervent Holiday Hero with his description of our activity:
It was really quite warm out, but not enough to cook an egg!
After out egg frying disaster, we continued our 4th of July preparations by filling water balloons. To assist us with this endeavor, Billy and Andrew decided to come on over and tie balloons until their fingers were numb. Needless to say, we got a bit wet even before the next step of our day began! While our preparations were made, we were able to also celebrate National Country Music Day with one of the greats: Johnny Cash. Well, not with him but at least with his music.
Yep! The Platinum Collection.
At the suggestion of Billy, we decided to fill a condom full of water just to see how big they could get. The idea was to have a massive explosion of water on some poor, unsuspecting soul, but the plan failed. After successfully tying off what looked to be about 5 pounds worth of water condom inside of a large garbage bag (the "protective shield"), it popped with quite a bang. Billy was thoroughly soaked and a rush of water came from the former condom shield! Unfortunately, I have no photos of the fun because it was raining quite a bit and we had water balloons. In my book, water+water balloons=broken camera. It was quite a riot though!
Finally, it was time to finish our water balloon extravaganza by actually using them! Some of the fine folks we know in ABQ put together an amazing water balloon fight in a park very close to our house. We loaded up Billy's truck and headed to the fight. No action shots (I was too busy getting thoroughly drenched), but here are some fun before and after shots:
Remarkable how they sort of look like colored Easter eggs!
And the after-photo: notice the curly bangs thanks to the water. My shirt was soaked!
After drying off and changing our wet clothes, fireworks were next on the list. We had absolutely no direction for about 2 hours (except the need for food and Sparklers) and then we found the PERFECT spot for a firework show viewing--the skate park behind the Isotopes baseball field. It was amazing! Thanks to Andrew and Sarah for an awesome evening! Check out these great pictures:
Adrian, Andy, and Sarah entertaining themselves before the fireworks began!
Sparklers in the car! Oh, yeah, we live dangerously!
Pretty...
Gushing geyser firework!
And we're done.
It was also Indivisible Day, but since it is part of the Pledge of Allegiance of the U.S., I figure all of the celebratory elements of Independence Day work well for Indivisible Day too! We had one fabulous Fourth of July, and we certainly hope you did as well.
CS, out.
