St. Swithun is the patron saint of bridges, eggs, and Winchester Cathedral. According to legend, there are several stories connected with this 9th century saint; the first story describes the fact that whatever weather prevails on his feast day (today) will continue for the next 40 days. Generally, it will be rainy on his feast day (given that it's England) and will continue to rain for the given time frame. Our weather was beautiful today, but Monday's weather looks to have rain. What's up St. Swithun? The second tale details that Swithun reformed broken eggs which were destroyed by a group of men on a bridge. Not exactly epic but why not?
Happy Swithun's Day!
The second and third holidays work well together: Cow Appreciation Day and Ice Cream Day. In order to appreciate a cow, many people (and Chik-fil-A) will not actually consume any cow products.
We actually ate a chicken dish for dinner so we happily preserved another cow's life--we indeed don't ever eat cows, so I guess we celebrate this one everyday! Chik-fil-A offered specials in their restaurants around the country on the 13th of this month, but many of our sources are unclear of the exact day. There are some who vie for the 13th, other for the 14th, and still more (like us) who opt for the 15th. In addition to our chicken consumption, there was an episode of the hit TV series Bones that featured cows on a farm--it was a great episode!
Finally, Ice Cream Day was one we simply couldn't pass up! It comes from cows without having to harm them and have some amazing flavors. Justin and Julie (featured often on the blog) brought us the unbelievable taste sensation: Strawberry Cheesecake from Blue Belle.
Yes, please!
Ice cream brings people together!
Hope your day was awesome!
CS, out.
