Ugly Truckin' with the Lollipop Kids to the Moon

July 20 is quite a celebratory day: Chess Day, Moon Day, Nap Day, National Lollipop Day, and Ugly Truck Day. Now, where should I start? With all of these amazing holidays on the table, let's begin with Ugly Truck Day.
Throughout Albuquerque, it is not uncommon to see a variety of ugly junker trucks roaming the streets just waiting to break down. However, many people take pride in their ugly trucks to the point of purposely not buying a new, shiny truck. Today is the day to celebrate your ugly truck, take pride in riding around in a junker, and show off your not-so-shiny wheels! Here's a few gems from around the ABQ area:
 This one's next door.
And this lovely one is down the street .
And this one is over by The Tan!

Up next is International Chess Day. I know, it's a pretty far cry from the "fun" of Ugly Truck Day, but it's a thought-provoking day nonetheless. For those who don't know, chess is a board game on the 64-checkered board, where 32 pieces are set up on opposing sides. Half are black and half are white: 2 players engage in an epic battle of strategy and wit. The origin of the name of the game is Persian: checkmate the king is dead, and India is the birthplace of the game. Personally, I'm not a fan of playing (I'm more of a Checkers kind of girl), but the Holiday Hero is quite an avid player. Take a look at our chess set:
Oh yeah, it's a glass set!

Next up is the tasty holiday: National Lollipop Day. From the youngest of us to the oldest, everyone enjoys a tasty lollipop every now and again. Whether you enjoy the multi-colored, swirly lollipops made famous by those scamps in The Wizard of Oz or the teeny ones given out during Halloween, lollipops are definitely an item to celebrate. Just for a point of history, George Smith named this sweet treat after his favorite race horse, Lolly Pop.
 Love me some lollipops!
 What a deal!

I wonder if lollipops have ever been enjoyed on the moon? Probably not, but today would certainly be the day to find out since we are celebrating the day that the first person walked on the moon. Hence, today is Moon Day. On July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module, nicknamed the "Eagle", touched down on the surface of the moon at Tranquility Base. Upon landing, Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong reported "The Eagle Has Landed". A few hours later, Neil Armstrong, stepped off of the Eagle's ladder, placed one foot upon the moon's surface and proclaimed: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".
Certainly a day for celebrating!

And finally, what better way to finish out the day then with a nice nap. Napping is not solely for infants and the elderly because taking a quick power nap can do wonders for your health. From having to endure less stress to living a happier, more productive life, naps are awesome! Just check out our little napper revitalizing his day:

So, go take a nap and enjoy a lollipop!
CS, out.
