Yellow Pigs Never Show Cell Phone Courtesy

When you think of a pig, you're generally going to imagine a fat, little, pink barnyard animal with a curly tail and a rather messy room. However, today (July 17th) is not the day to celebrate these cute oinkers, rather Yellow Pig Day commemorates the imaginative creation of a yellow pig by two Princeton University students, Michael Spivak and David C. Kelly, in the Math department from the 1960s. Sound cooky, right? I know. So, here's the story. These students were contemplating the properties of the number 17, as part of an assignment. Throughout their contemplating (I would have gone to sleep before these guys could explain their contemplation, but to each his own), they, too, got bored and imagined a mythical yellow pig with 17 toes, 17 eyelashes, 17 teeth, etc. Each year math students celebrate Yellow Pig Day with songs, parades, cake, and other celebratory activities. I seriously don't know that I could earnestly celebrate a math-y holiday, but woo hoo! Yellow Pigs!
 I'm lost.
And yes, they sing yellow pig carols! "The March of the Yellow Pig" and "The Seventeen Day of Yellow Pig" are particularly interesting to me. Feel free to sing and send us your video.

Our second holiday for today is one that is well-known to anyone who has ever seen a movie at the cinema. In between the random commercials that are now shown (ick!) and the previews (sometimes fun), you will more than likely see some type of PSA about being courteous to other by turning off your cell phone and refraining from calling/texting during the movie because it is rude and annoying. Anyone who has ever been enjoying a movie in the theater and heard the obnoxious noise of loud ringtones (it always seems to be either asinine rap songs or the default tones no one has changed since obtaining the phones). Apparently, the PSA only affects those who actually see/pay attention to it--damn it! Even the ones who vocalize the message are ignored; well, today is the observance day of National Cell Phone Courtesy Month anywhere and everywhere you go. Whether it's the movies, restaurants, hospitals, or anywhere else that requires cell phone silence, please be courteous to others because not everyone is a fan of your musical choices.

I'm sure you've seen this before!

Here's hoping your day was yellow piggy and courteous!

CS, out.
