American Adventures with Watermelon...and Other Foods

After a couple of weeks of some serious holiday celebrating, we have a pretty light day today (Friday, August 3). There are only two celebrations: American Adventures Month and National Watermelon Day. So, we will begin with our own American adventure.
Going through life is always an adventure, and we simply need to make the most of our time. One of the fun and exciting parts of life is being able to entertain others using our own talents and abilities. In the case of your Holiday Hero and a few of his friends, that talent would be entertaining music fans in novel ways. Tonight HH and friends decided to perform in a makeshift band called "Snack House" (among other various names) using only food items as methods of playing their instruments. HH's guitar was played with tortilla chips and a block of extra sharp cheddar cheese, Andy played his bass with cheese sandwiches and singing into a drumstick ice cream treat while wearing plastic wrap as a hat and watermelon rind as his neck, and Nate banged on his drums with Polish sausages and meat franks. Talk about an American adventure! At the end of their two whole songs (I know), the audience was completely flabbergasted! Wouldn't you be after seeing these guys:

Yup! Notice the costumes...

Second on the list was already somewhat celebrated thanks to Andy's edible neckwear, but it seems only fitting that we give National Watermelon Day its own recognition. Summer is and always will be completed by a nice big chunk of juicy, sweet, red watermelon cut fresh from the giant fruit just before consumption. Your Holiday Hero is quite a fan of watermelon, as am I, so we have been enjoying its nectar all summer. He even surprised me yesterday with a pre-birthday (mine is tomorrow) picnic in Tiguex Park consisting of PB&J sandwiches as well as a nice big container of watermelon. It was wonderful!
Even Cassidy got in on the watermelon action!

He's quite protective of his large, red fruits!
Keepin' it real.

And that's it for today!
CS, out.
