To the Moon and More!

And we're back! Today (Sunday, July 29) is a jam-packed day full of fun, food, and excitement so let's get going before this holiday train runs out of steam.
First on the agenda is Buffalo Wing Day. Contrary to what you might think, buffalo wings are not made from buffalo but rather chickens! The sauce that they are dipped in is actually what makes a buffalo wing so special (although the sauce has nothing to do with buffalo either). Back home in Ohio, we had the best place to go get a plate-full of wings called Quaker Steak and Lube. *mouth waters* Out here in NM, the franchise hasn't quite made it this far, so we have to settle with either BW3 (Buffalo Wild Wings) or our own (read, Justin's mom's homemade) wings. And we did just that!
 Nobody touches my wing!
But the bones are all yours!
Arthur was especially interested in these tasty morsels!
You can even find examples of Buffalo Wing lovers on popular TV shows like Bones:
Name that episode!

Second on our holiday-licious list is National Lasagna Day. I'm not sure how well buffalo wings and lasagna go together, but I know that individually they are amazing! So, hopefully you were able to celebrate both in some way or another. Here's a glimpse to whet your appetite:
Yes...free is good!

Up next is one that pretty much everyone should celebrate in one way or another: Parents' Day, a day designed to remember and honor your parents as well as applaud those making the choice to become parents. Unfortunately for myself and for the Holiday Hero, we live about 1600 miles away from our parents, but we were able to celebrate with my aunt and her father in Santa Fe. It's always nice to see an entire family gather around and spread the love. I was able to talk to my mom today, so I guess it was a celebration in its own right. Here are my parents as well as my brother Tony and your Holiday Hero:
Happy family at our wedding!
Moving to the next holiday, we have Rain Day. This is a holiday stemming from Waynesburg, Pa, wherein a man came into the local drugstore and told the clerk that it would rain the following day because it was his birthday and it always rained on his birthday. He was right, and the store owner decided to make bets with salesmen passing by. The wager was on a hat. If it rained, he won the hat. If not, he bought the hat for someone else. When his son took over the store, he kept the tradition alive and won hats from notable people like Johnny Carson and Bing Crosby. Today, the town continues to celebrate! Here in NM, it did not rain, so we would have won that bet!
Look at all those hats!
Finally, we have To the Moon Day. It commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing! Enjoy the moon today!
Pretty.
Hope your day rocked!

CS, out!
